I had a good lesson in not providing lessons the other day.
Mikaela has a weekly swimming lesson, so Eliane and Liam get weekly swims too. Up until recently I've been going in with Elli, but it's cold, and well, frankly I just didn't feel like it today. So I changed into a short, quick-dry skirt and took off my shoes and socks and just stood in the shallows or on the edge while Elli splashed about a bit.
When I'm in the pool with Eliane, I spend a lot of time 'walking' on my hands with her on my back or my chest. But I haven't been able to get her to do anything similar, or even crawl. She always wants to be upright.
Today, because I wasn't in there, she spent the entire time in the very shallow water. First she was just standing and walking around, but after a while she sat down. From there she eventually moved onto hands and knees, and then it was a quick progression to stretch out her legs and let her body float, supporting herself on her hands.
She did get into trouble at one point, 'walking' forward far enough that suddenly her mouth was going under water, and her arms were barely long enough to keep her up, and her without the skills to sit herself up, but it was only a momentary fright (I yanked her up and moved her back a bit), and she was quickly back at it.
Gratuitous Eliane pic of the day (actually it's from February, but whatever...)
